The Texas Summer Intern Program is a 12-week internship for high-potential, full-time college students. This program offers students an opportunity to gain hands-on work experience while building knowledge and skills in fundamental aspects of the NSA mission. Internship positions are offered in multiple mission areas requiring a range of competencies to include but not limited to computer science, programming and engineering.
Interns will be hired on a Temporary Appointment for a term no more than 12 weeks following the beginning of the internship. Interns must reapply yearly to participate in subsequent summers.
Ideally, candidates with the following knowledge/skills/abilities will fit well into various internship positions at NSA Texas (As there are various positions covered by this ad, not all of the following are required for any one position. If you have any of the following skills, you should apply to this ad.
-Knowledge of modern telecommunications and information systems technologies to include one or more of the following; router/firewall/proxy administration, Microsoft Windows internals, Unix/Linux internals and network security implementation & practices.
-Knowledge/experience with software design and development. Familiarity with Software Engineering processes/practices is a plus. The ability to assimilate new concepts and technologies quickly and follow development methodologies is critical.
-Experience or familiarity with one or more of the following is recommended: object-oriented programming; Wiki or other collaborative technologies;
-Prior experience in the following areas is highly desirable, but not required: basic TCP/IP networking (including subnetting and routing), computer and networking system installations ‘ hardware and software, system troubleshooting, hardware repair, operating system provisioning, and operating system troubleshooting.
-Highly desired skills and experience include: Active Directory, VMware vSphere Architecture, Citrix XenDesktop/XenApp, Windows/ Redhat Enterprise Linux, Solarwinds/Network Node Manager and Cisco Switching/Routing concepts. Additionally, experience with storage management and technologies such as FiberChannel, iSCSI, NFS/CIFS, NetApp, EMC, and IBM arrays are favorable.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
– Students are paid a competitive salary commensurate with their education level.
– Receive annual leave, sick leave and paid federal holidays.
– Participation in agency-wide extracurricular programs.
– Daily transportation to and from work is not provided. Students participating in the program are highly encouraged to bring a vehicle.
– Students who attend schools in excess of 75 miles from San Antonio, TX, are eligible for a round trip airfare ticket to and from school or mileage reimbursement up to the cost of a government-issued airline ticket.
Join students from across the country and lend your knowledge to national security in one of NSA’s over 25 summer internship programs. These 12 week paid programs run from mid-May to mid-August and are open to undergraduate freshman up to Ph.D. students depending on internship requirements. These internships are open to a wide variety of majors and give students the opportunity to work directly with mission-critical problems and experience the excitement of working directly in NSA spaces.
– Must be a U.S. citizen.
– Must be eligible to be granted a security clearance.
– A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
– Must be a college freshman, sophomore or junior.
– Prior military experience beneficial, but not required.
– Must be available for an operational interview and other applicable processing between the months of December 2019 and March 2020.
-Must have personal transportation to the location of the internship. There are no bus stops within a reasonable distance to the site.
– Majors in Computer Science, Engineering, Math or related fields preferred.
